The latest GfK research in six key markets – Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and Philippines – shows the sales volume of tablets doubled across the region in 2012, while demand for smartphones surged by 50% in volume over 2011. GfK is leveraging on the exponential growth to develop a new service. Its ‘Location Insights’ aggregates data from mobile networks and devices to enable retailers to gather information so they can better understand the movements and demographics of crowds around and in specific area.
