Matt Harty and Andy Tu, part of the team behind IAMWednesday, have decided to organise a conference at Club Med Bintan. The central idea behind this is to have an event by the advertising industry (read: agencies) for the industry. The organisers intend to be unconventional in as many ways as possible, such as holding the event on Bintan instead of our own little island, and featuring ‘democratic content’ instead of the traditional top down speaker to audience approach. There are even rumours of sessions being done in the Club Med swimming pool. We guess this will be one conference session where people will not be busy on their phones all the time.
The conference format will be loosely based on the ‘Unconference’ format that Stream, a conference series organised by WPP, has featured for a while.
We have been promised a polarising keynote by Barry Cupples, the Global CEO, Investment at Omnicom Media Group (this is the guy that’s going to buy your agency). He will claim that the advertising agency model is dead and drastic change is needed, so pay attention.
Nearly 60 people from a wide variety of agencies have already signed up but there are still seats available.
