With the growing popularity of Internet-enabled devices such as the smartphones and tablets, researchers and clients need to track where web traffic originates. Nielsen’s figures show personal computers remain the primary means of getting online for SEA Internet users (94%), a growing proportion are turning to alternative devices. 4% of respondents say their mobile phone is their primary means of accessing the Internet. 61% said they will access the Internet via the mobile phone in the next 12 months.

At the end of 2010, Nielsen estimated that smartphone penetration amongst SEA netizens would be around 20%.
