Did you make a New Year resolution for 2013? A survey by LinkedIn showed that 85% planned to make a New Year Resolution related to their professional life/career in the coming year. This is up from 67% who did last year. The top five professional goals of Singaporeans were:
(1) Professional development through learning new skills (50%)
(2) Network more or build more professional relations (50%)
(3) Get promoted or move into a leadership role (39%)
(4) Get a new job or career (36%)
(5) Get a pay raise (34%)
The No. 1 resolution “learning new skills” was reflected worldwide with Brazil at 61% heading the list.
The main reason Singaporeans gave for selecting this goal was “financial security and growth”.
A career coach remarked that with a weak economy and uncertain job market, Singaporeans had understood that strengthening one’s capabilities was the key to stay competitive.
