The Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, was the venue for several events organised by Design Business Chamber Singapore (formerly Designers Association Singapore). On 13th March 2015, designers from several countries met at a Summit and heard presentations for veteran designs. In the evening, the Singapore Design Alliance (consisting of nine design associations) held a Gala Dinner and awards presentation. The guest of honour was Grace Fu, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Overall 83 awards were given this year for the Singapore Good Design Mark (45 from local SME companies and start-ups). Overseas winners came from China, Thailand, Japan, Germany, and the Netherlands. DBCS President, Tai Lee Siang said, “The range of award submissions this year is really impressive – with many out-of-the-box ideas which are not just unique but are practical with good commercialisation potential.”
The Design Business Chamber Singapore presented its SG50 Special Awards to six companies as a tribute to companies and individuals who have crafted outstanding designs that withstood the test of time and have stamped their imprint on Singapore’s design heritage of the past 50 years.
The Singapore Design Awards 2015 were also presented on the same evening. A total of 48 awards were given to outstanding companies and individuals.
During the evening the past Presidents of the DAS/DBCS were brought to the stage and honoured as this association celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2015.
