The Society of Publishers in Asia has been holding its annual awards for Editorial Excellence for the past fifteen years. This year, the Society has opened up to seventeen categories from news, photography to lifestyle coverage. There are 315 Chinese entries and 338 English entries competing for the 2013 awards. Currently, the entries are being judged and the winners will be announced at a Gala Dinner held in Hong Kong on 6th June. The head of judges this year is Dr Judith Clarke, Associate Professor of the International Journalism undergraduate concentration at Hong Kong Baptist University.

AdAsia print magazine and our now defunct Designer magazine each won prizes at SOPA’s awards some years back so we have a soft spot for this competition. The dinner is usually quite a grand affair and well worth attending if you are in the publishing industry.

After the SOPA Awards, the folks in the publishing industry can also enjoy the Asian Publishing Convention Awards. These accompany the two-days of presentations and workshops and will be given out in Manila on the 12th July.
