The awards for the Singapore Effies were handed out at the Raffles Convention Centre on 31st May. Thanks to McCann‘s local office who helped the Institute of Advertising Singapore (IAS) prepare the promotional material and design of the show, the 2012 Singapore Effies felt fresh. The posters, coasters and other items were designed with thought. Walking into The Stamford Ballroom one felt a pleasant surprise. Instead of the usual round tables, we saw rows of tables, set up like a school hall, covered in black cloth with customised candles. The compere, Oli Pettigrew, was also refreshing in his cheeky reparte.

This year IAS had a 17% increase in the number of entries which were reviewed by 57 judges. DDB and OMD gained 11 out of the 17 awards given out.

On stage handing out the majority of the awards was Terry O’Connor, current President of IAS, and Ben Lightfoot, McCann Worldgroup Chairman, Singapore who headed up the awards committee this year.

For some reason, almost the entire agency staff from the winning agencies went on stage to pick up the awards. Did they ALL work on the project or did some individuals wanted to bathe in reflected glory?

Never mind, whoever did it, they created nice creative solutions as well as work that demonstrated effectiveness. We particularly like the DBS’s ‘Expect the Unexpected’ campaign. The winners are listed below.

IAS aided by its sponsors StarHub, MediaCorp and the New York Times Group, put on a good show for the industry.

The Institute and its staff/committee won’t have much time to rest. The APPIES will be upon us soon!
